General questions
How much does an accountant cost for a limited company?
Our limited company accounts service starts from £100 a month, and all-in-one packages for limited companies start from £150 a month. Every business is different, so after a free consultation we give you a fixed monthly fee based on the work involved — no surprise bills. We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT added to our fees.
Do you charge VAT on your fees?
No. MyTaxLead is not VAT registered, so the price we quote is the price you pay.
Do you only work with businesses in London?
No — we work with clients all over the UK. Most of our in-person visits are in London and the South East, and many clients use our fully online service with phone, WhatsApp and Zoom support.
Can you visit me at my business?
Yes. We can visit you at your business when needed, anywhere in the UK, or you are welcome to visit us at our office. If you prefer, everything can be done online instead.
Are you regulated?
Yes. We are supervised by HMRC for anti-money-laundering (registration XVML00000216816), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office for data protection, and registered with Companies House as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP). Our trading company, M A Accounts Ltd, is registered in England and Wales (company number 12356630).
How do I switch to MyTaxLead from my current accountant?
Tell us who your current accountant is and we handle the handover — requesting your records, getting authorised with HMRC and making sure nothing is missed. Most switches are straightforward and you don't need to do much at all.
I've missed a deadline or received an HMRC letter — can you help?
Yes. We deal with HMRC and Companies House on your behalf, help bring late filings up to date and can advise on penalties. The sooner you get in touch, the more we can usually do.
How do I get in touch with my accountant?
By phone, WhatsApp, email or Zoom — whichever suits you. You also get a secure client portal for documents and invoices. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 9am–7:30pm and Saturday 11am–5pm.
Limited company accounts
When are limited company accounts due?
For most private limited companies, annual accounts are due at Companies House 9 months after the end of the financial year. The Corporation Tax return (CT600) is due 12 months after the end of the accounting period, but the tax itself is usually payable 9 months and 1 day after the period ends.
What happens if my company accounts are filed late?
Companies House issues automatic penalties for private companies — from £150 if accounts are up to a month late, rising to £1,500 if more than six months late, and doubled if accounts were also late the previous year. HMRC charges separate penalties for late Corporation Tax returns. We make sure you are never late.
Can you take over my company part-way through the year?
Yes. We contact your previous accountant for the records we need, get authorised with HMRC, and pick up from where things were left.
All-in-one Ltd packages
What is included in an all-in-one package?
Packages are tailored to your company. Most combine year-end accounts and Corporation Tax, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns and the director's Self Assessment. We confirm exactly what's included in your fixed monthly quote.
Is a package cheaper than paying for services separately?
Usually, yes. Bundling services under one monthly fee typically costs less than paying for each one separately — and you deal with one accountant for everything.
Can I change my package later?
Yes. As your company grows or your needs change, we can add or remove services and adjust your fixed fee.
Self Assessment
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
Online tax returns must be filed by 31 January following the end of the tax year (5 April), and any tax owed is also due by 31 January. Paper returns are due by 31 October. If you are new to Self Assessment you need to register by 5 October.
What are the penalties for a late tax return?
HMRC charges £100 as soon as an online return is late. After 3 months, daily penalties of £10 apply for up to 90 days, with further penalties at 6 and 12 months. Interest is also charged on tax paid late.
What is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax requires sole traders and landlords above an income threshold to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. It started in April 2026 for those with qualifying income over £50,000, with lower thresholds following. We help you get set up and stay compliant.
VAT returns
When do I have to register for VAT?
You must register if your VAT-taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period, or if you expect it to go over £90,000 in the next 30 days alone. You can also register voluntarily below the threshold.
When are VAT returns due?
For most businesses, VAT returns and payment are due 1 calendar month and 7 days after the end of each VAT period.
What is Making Tax Digital for VAT?
All VAT-registered businesses must keep digital VAT records and submit returns using compatible software. We handle the submissions for you.
Payroll & PAYE
When do I need to report payroll to HMRC?
Under Real Time Information (RTI), employers must send HMRC a Full Payment Submission on or before each payday.
Do I need payroll if I am the only director?
If you pay yourself a salary through your limited company, it normally needs to go through payroll. We can advise on the most tax-efficient salary level.
When do employees get their P60?
Employers must give each employee a P60 by 31 May after the end of the tax year.
Bookkeeping
How long do I need to keep business records?
Limited companies generally need to keep records for at least 6 years from the end of the financial year. Sole traders need to keep records for at least 5 years after the 31 January Self Assessment deadline for the relevant tax year.
Can you help if my books are behind?
Yes. We can bring your records up to date and then keep them current every month.
Do I need to use particular software?
No. We work with the records you already have and can recommend a simple setup that suits your business.
Landlord accounts
Can I still claim mortgage interest as a landlord?
For individual landlords, mortgage interest is no longer deducted from rental income. Instead you receive a basic-rate tax credit (20%) on the interest. We make sure this is applied correctly.
Do I need to tell HMRC about rental income?
Yes — in most cases rental income needs to be declared, usually through Self Assessment. We can register you and file your return.
Does Making Tax Digital apply to landlords?
Yes. Landlords with qualifying income over the threshold must follow Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. It started in April 2026 for those over £50,000, with lower thresholds following.
